Holiday Herb Guide

Gathering for the holidays means lots of love, giggles, and food! With most holiday feasts, one of the first steps we take is to make sure we have all the essentials to make a memorable meal, including the herbs that flavor everything from the turkey to the taters. Growing your own herbs for the holidays adds fresh flavor and color to every recipe. Also knowing that you have what you need beforehand makes everything run just a little bit smoother. Start out by growing the must-haves like Sage, Rosemary, Parsley and Thyme. If you grow them in the garden, you can harvest and dry them for later use. You can also grow them indoors and have herbs at your fingertips year-round.

  • Sage You can’t have a holiday feast without the flavor that sage provides. Whether it’s in the stuffing or sausage, you can never go wrong with this herb in your arsenal.
  • Rosemary Add savory flavor to main and side dishes. Use sprigs for a fragrant garnish too! A popular herb used to enhance the flavor of beef such as steak or prime rib.
  • Thyme Often found as a main ingredient in pork and poultry recipes. Add a hint of citrus with lemon scented varieties.
  • Parsley Use with your favorite potato recipe or give your salads more color with this bright green herb. A mild flavored choice that can be used fresh or dried in a variety of dishes.
