The stacking of roll green lawn grass

A frustration-free sod installation

Sod installation can go from good to disaster quickly if you neglect to follow the proper steps. Avoid unnecessary frustration during installation with these helpful hints.

Preparation work

Do the necessary prep work ahead of time so that once you have sod, installation can begin immediately. Delays in installation can lead to dried out and deteriorated sod, costing you time and money.
General installation guidelines

Measure for the right fit

Keep your sod pieces intact and avoid stretching them. Stretching sod while laying it down can cause irreversible damage to the roots, making it difficult for the sod to become established. Measure twice and use the sod calculator to help you add up your measurements and add 10% more.

Place it nice and tight

Each piece should be placed snugly against each other without overlapping or leaving gaps. A gap in sod is an open invitation to weeds. Overlapping can slow or hinder growth and make the lawn uneven.

Water Balance is Key

Too little water and your sod will dry out and wane. Too much water inhibits root growth and encourages disease.

Look, Don’t walk

Admire your new sod from a distance. Prevent damage by not walking or placing objects on newly installed sod.

Let It Grow

When the time comes to mow, just take a little off the top. Cutting too short too soon will stress the grass. You want to allow the grass to become established and thrive.

Follow Through

Keep on top of standard maintenance like setting watering and feeding schedules, applying pesticide and weed control as needed and mowing regularly. Staying consistent in caring for your newly installed lawn will prevent issues in the future.
