Fescue Maintenance Fall and Winter

A cool season grass that can handle regular use, resist drought and disease. It has a great texture and it requires less maintenance.

Maintenance

Fertilizing

As weather cools, use a slow-release fertilizer like Scotts® Turf Builder® WinterGuard® Fall Lawn Food to strengthen the lawn’s roots. It feeds the lawn consistently and is better for the environment.

Watering

Water about 1” a week. Sandy soils often require more frequent watering, about ½” every third day. Water dormant lawns about ½” every 3 weeks to prevent death.

Mowing

Mow at 2½-3½”, until lawn stops growing, usually late fall.
